How to Play Spades

• Spades is a strategic trick-taking game played in teams of two using a standard 52-card deck.

Game Basics:

1. Each player bids the number of tricks they aim to win.

2. You can bid “Nil” for a high-risk, high-reward challenge — or even “Blind Nil” if enabled.

3. Players must follow the lead suit if possible; if not, they may play a Spade.

4. Spades are trump and beat all other suits but can only be played after being “broken” or when you are out of the lead suit.

5. Points are awarded for meeting or exceeding your bid, while missed bids result in penalties. Extra tricks add “bags” — 10 bags will cost you points.

6. The game ends when a team reaches the target score (often 500), and the highest-scoring team wins.
