Joplin

Joplin is an open-source note-taking application designed to capture ideas freely while maintaining full control over data and privacy. Documents can be attached directly to notes, while advanced content such as math expressions, tables, code blocks, and diagrams can be created within the app. Joplin also supports to-do lists with reminders, making it easy to manage tasks alongside written notes.

Notes can be organised into notebooks and further structured with tags based on subject, priority, or workflow. Rich text formatting, colours, and Markdown support enable clear and readable note layouts. Built-in task lists and reminders help manage deadlines and daily activities. A powerful search engine enhanced with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) makes it possible to find information even inside PDFs and images, supporting use cases such as storing receipts, lecture notes, bills, and reference materials.

Joplin ensures consistent access to notes across computers, phones, and tablets through synchronisation with services such as Joplin Cloud, Dropbox, and OneDrive. Changes made on one device are reflected on others, allowing seamless transitions between work environments and devices without data loss.

All notes remain accessible without an internet connection. Joplin is designed with an offline-first approach, ensuring uninterrupted access while travelling or working in low-connectivity environments. Once connectivity is restored, notes automatically synchronise and update across all linked devices.

Joplin adapts to different devices and workflows. The desktop application includes a web clipper extension, a wide selection of community-developed plugins, and a full-featured Markdown editor.
